For many years, law enforcement agencies around the world have captured images of an offender’s scars, marks, and tattoos in addition to their fingerprints and facial mugshots. However, they are unable to be readily searched unless they use accompanying text descriptors, which are generally of limited value due to mismatches between the string added to the original image and the search text subsequently used, e.g., dog and wolf, rose and flower, etc., as well as non-specific images and patterns.
